Week 2: Sun’s ☀️ Out, Sanity’s Slipping: Now What?

Many families look forward to slow mornings and late nights during the summer months. However, it’s easy to overlook the importance of maintaining learned skills when planning summer activities.

One of the top reasons we hear from families during the summer is their desire to create learning plans to help keep their kids' skills sharp. One FREE resource we love at Let’s Learn Tutoring is Khan Academy. It’s a non-profit organization that provides standards-aligned online learning tools for learners of all ages - from kindergarten through college.

Yuck... summer work. I know - what a drag, right? But did you know the “summer slide” is a real thing? On average, students lose about two months’ worth of skills in both reading and math over the summer. Seriously?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Start with a simple plan:

• 3–5 minutes per day for our little learners
• 10–15 minutes for middle and high schoolers Then, gradually increase those times each week.

Make it fun and interactive! One thing I love to do is run a summer book club. We pick a book as a family (geared toward our kids) and get it in every format - paperback, hardcover, digital, and audio - to match everyone’s preference. Then we make it engaging with colorful highlighters, sticky notes, bookmarks, and clips.
