Week 5: The Secret to What Comes Next

It’s vacation week for my family, and boy, are we looking forward to some fun in the sun☀️ responsibly, of course 🧢🧴.

As I wrapped up work tasks this Friday and prepped all the essentials before heading out of the office for the weekend, a realization hit me... When I return, we’ll be heading into the final month of summer.

As a mom, this instantly sent me into panic mode 😳😱😣. Can you relate? That never-ending mental to-do list starts rattling off everything that needs to happen before school starts.

WOAH… STOP IT RIGHT NOW. BREATHE.

There’s plenty of time to get things done and not everything needs to be done at once. The secret? Outline what needs attention and set manageable timelines.

So I wrote a checklist to help tame my inner chaos 😱and hopefully support yours too:

📚 Back-to-School Checklist

  1. ✔️ Partner with other parents to share bulk items, because when is there ever just one highlighter in a pack? NEVER.
  2. Dust off the old backpack or hit the Back-to-School sales:
    1. Target
    2. Staples
    3. Walmart
    4. Amazon
  3. Review Educational Documentation/Plans: IEPs, 504s, Transition, and Learning Plans
    1. Create a one-pager for your learner
    2. Outline goals—for you and your child. Include one school-based goal and one personal goal
    3. Highlight their strengths and needs in life and learning. Include areas where they shine and those that challenge them
    4. List preferred methods of communication: email, text, or phone call
    5. We are hosting a Parent Workshop: A Parent’s Guide to IEP’s event in August and would love to have you join us! Let’s turn confusion into clarity!

Even though you might be panicking like me, summer’s not over yet!!

This week's homework: plan something fun for YOU and your family!

Week 2: Sun’s ☀️ Out, Sanity’s Slipping: Now What? Many families look forward to slow mornings and late nights during the summer months.
